The British Rail Class 159 "Express Sprinter" consists of 22 original three-car units built 1992-1993 (plus 8 later conversions) operating London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids services since 1993. Enhanced from Class 158 specification with dedicated first-class accommodation, powerful 400hp Cummins engines, and sophisticated braking systems, these units remain the backbone of West of England express services under current public ownership.
