The British Rail Class 168 Clubman was Britain's first post-privatisation DMU, ordered by Chiltern Railways in September 1996 and entering service from May 1998. Built by ADtranz at Derby, these express-capable units established the Turbostar platform with MTU diesel engines, Voith hydraulic transmission, and 100 mph capability. All 28 units continue operating exclusively with Chiltern Railways on London Marylebone to Birmingham, Oxford, and Stratford-upon-Avon services. Bachmann produced discontinued OO gauge models (32-470, 32-471) now commanding £80-120 on the secondary market, whilst Graham Farish's N gauge variant (371-435) is similarly discontinued. The class represents modern British regional express operations from 1998 to present.
